Great Britain face a gold medal match against Ukraine tomorrow after completing a 6-1 victory over Romania in the World Championship (Division 1B) in Zagreb.

GB controlled the game and outshot Romania 58-11, including 23 shots in the second period.

Jonathan Phillips and Jonathan Boxill put GB 2-0 up by the end of the first period, with Robert Farmer and Colin Shields doubling the lead before the second break.

Matthew Myers and Jonathan Weaver added further goals for GB in the final session, before Ervin Moldovan Horvath dashed Ben Bowns’ hopes of a second successive shut-out with a 55th minute consolation for Romania.

Head Coach Pete Russell said: “We did well out there – it wasn’t pretty but we did what we had to do.

“They are such a focused bunch of guys and nothing seems to put them off their stride.

“This was a game we were expected to win and they went out and did that.

“It sets up a massive gold-medal match tomorrow and it is a game we have been building towards all week.

“It’s exciting and we will now focus our attentions on Ukraine.”

GB’s final game faces-off on Saturday at 12 noon UK time.
