American forward Matt Berry has joined Glasgow Clan until at least the end of the season.

Berry makes the move to the UK for the first time in his career, having moved to Europe last season for a year with HK Liptovsky Milkulas in Slovakia.

There, he scored 17 times and added a further 21 assists in 53 games.

Berry has spent the majority of his career in the ECHL, lining up for the likes of Cincinnati Cyclones, Utah Grizzlies, Florida Everblades and Toledo Walleye.

He played over 300 games in the division, picking up over 300 points and scoring over 100 goals.

However, a move to the UK was always something Berry wanted to experience, as he prepares for life in Scotland with his new side.

“I’m looking forward to joining the team,” Berry said.

“I’ve heard a lot of great things about Scotland, and I want to try to make an impact with the team and hopefully try to make it the best it can be.

“From what I’ve seen, we have a nice arena where the fans really come out for the team, so I can’t wait to get out there and play.”

A vital piece of the Clan puzzle

Berry, who will wear the #14 jersey, reunites with one of his former team-mates in Clan captain Deven Sideroff.

The pair played together during the 2018/19 season, featuring for San Diego Gulls in the AHL.

On the new signing, Glasgow Clan head coach Corey Nielson said: “Matt’s name came up, and I liked the look of what he had to offer. He’s a guy who can penetrate on the interior.

“He goes to the net hard, scores and picks up points around the net, and that is something that I’m really looking forward to.

“Matt also knows some of our guys, so he’ll come in and make some partnerships with people so there’s some familiarity there for him.

“It might take a little time for him to get up to speed, but we’re delighted to have him and I think he’ll be a valuable piece for us.”
