Sheffield Steeldogs have confirmed the signing of forward Macaulay Heywood.
The 20-year-old is a product of the Telford junior system, becoming a regular part of the Tigers team last season. He has also represented Great Britain at U20 level.
Steeldogs’ boss Greg Wood said: “After recent weeks results and performances I believe now was the right time to make an addition to our squad.
“I felt the team was lacking a bit of substance and physical presence. Bringing in Macaulay will give us an added edge and energy to our team.
“He is a big, young and talented player that is eager to play and prove himself. His hunger to play a regular shift has made this move possible.
“I’m looking for him to lift the team and give us an added presence and energy on the ice. This signing will bring extra competition for places to our roster.
“Creating a culture where guys can’t take nights off and have to be playing to their full potential to earn a spot can only be positive for the team.”
Heywood added: “I’m ready to scrap for points, to get some wins and help get the Steeldogs back up the table.
“They had a really good start to the season, but they’ve hit a rough patch and I hope I can help turn that around.
“I’m hoping I can get some goals and make a difference for the club. I can put the puck away and I’m very physical.
“I’m quite a gritty player and I think that will really fit in with the Steeldogs.
“Sheffield is quite different to Telford – there are lot younger guys so I’ll fit in well. There are a lot of old pros in Telford, but the older guys in Sheffield are only around 28 so I think I’ll really get on well with everyone.”
