Dundee Stars forward Jonathan McBean has signed a new two-year contract extension.

The extended deal will see the 21-year-old remain with the club until at least the end of the 2026/27 season.

McBean has made over 120 appearances during the last three years with the Elite League Stars, scoring 12 goals and assisting 13 more.

McBean has been touted as the future of the club, as the Stars look to continue his development at his hometown club.

‘The future of the league’

On tying down one of his brightest stars to a new deal, Dundee Stars head coach Marc LeFebvre said: “Jonny is the future of the club, but not only that, he is the future of this league and we want our Brits to succeed and give them every opportunity to.

“He has come on leaps and bounds since last season when I got here, and he is earning his ice time.

“He has had a few chances on the powerplay this year, which he took advantage of, and the future is bright for him.

“He is just a hard-working pro, he is learning and getting better every day, and I look forward to seeing his progression in the next few years.”

McBean ready to fulfil potential

On his new deal, McBean said: “I am really happy to have the opportunity to play here for another couple of seasons at the minimum, and hopefully I can just keep developing into the player I know I can be.

“Growing up in Dundee and watching the Stars makes the decision a pretty easy one, but other than that, the people to learn from here are great.

“And with Marc signing his extension, I know I can keep learning from him.

“This year he has given me a lot of opportunities, so I just want to keep working hard and improving to keep the opportunities coming.”
