Invicta Dynamos turn their attention back to NIHL1 South action this weekend, having secured a favourable draw in the semi-final of the D1S Cup last Sunday.
The Dynamos’ 4-2 victory over Chelmsford Chieftains guaranteed top spot in the cup group and a last-four tie against Streatham IHC over two legs in the New Year, with the second leg at home.
The Kent outfit host Bracknell Hornets on Sunday hoping to build on last week’s impressive result against the Cheiftains.
Forward Haydn Wootton (above) told Kent Sports News: “We can keep the cup out of our minds now and just focus on the league.
“We want to be right up there at the top, so now we need to keep this form going and start beating teams like Bracknell.
“With Wightlink going out of the league their players have gone elsewhere and given teams Bracknell, Streatham and others more depth.
“It’ll make the league a lot tougher, but it also makes it more enjoyable. If you can get the wins against those teams you know you’re playing well and can compete.
“Our team has really pulled together in recent weeks and hopefully we can continue to get good results.”
New Streatham boss Jeremy Cornish takes his team to Chelmsford on Sunday aiming to inflict the Chieftains’ first defeat of the league campaign.
The Riverside hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Streatham in recent seasons, but Cornish believes he can spark a change in their fortunes.
“Like in every game we will go there to win – I’m not interested in going through the motions with this team,” he told London News Online.
“We have some quality players and we just need to build up our fitness levels.
“We aim to be challenging for every competition, starting with the league. While they will be a tough challenge in their own rink, we will be working hard to be prepared.”
Unbeaten D2S outfit Peterborough Islanders face a weekend double-header in the cup, travelling to Swindon Wildcats NIHL on Saturday before returning to home ice to meet Bristol Pitbulls the following day.
