Telford Tigers starlet Corey Goodison has set himself a target of playing for the club’s English Premier League squad on a regular basis.

The 18-year-old, who transferred from Coventry Blaze in the summer, has been a revelation for The Tigers NIHL this season.

Goodison scored twice in the recent win over Sutton Sting and has been training with Telford’s senior side on a regular basis.

The defenceman played twice for the EPL Tigers in pre-season – and wants to become a regular fixture in that squad.

He said: “I trained a few times with the Elite League squad in Coventry, but when I got here the level was the same as that. I’m really enjoying it.

“I’m looking at going up through the NIHL team, and then progressing to the EPL side here in Telford.

“It would be nice to play in the Elite League one day, but we’ll see how that goes.”

Goodison has become a defensive mainstay of a Tigers NIHL squad that currently sits fourth in the Moralee Conference.

He added: “I’ve settled in really well with the guys in the NIHL team. They’re a great bunch of lads and I feel very welcome. It has helped me to really enjoy my ice hockey.”

The youngster’s appearance in the EPL squad saw him face his previous side, Coventry Blaze, in September.

That game ended in a 4-2 defeat for Telford – but it was still a useful learning experience.

“It was great to play for The Tigers EPL, especially against Coventry’s Elite League side,” Goodison said.

“I really enjoyed it and learned a lot from going up to that level. I’m developing a lot and getting to know more about positioning and things like that.”

The Tigers EPL host Peterborough Phantoms at Telford Ice Rink on Saturday night (6.30pm). For tickets, go to www.tigershockeyuk.com.

The Tigers NIHL, meanwhile, welcome Solihull Barons to Shropshire on Sunday evening. That game faces off at 6pm.
