Will Weldon’s testimonial captains have been revealed by the Peterborough Phantoms.
Two ex-club legends will take the lead for Team White and Team Blue on the 28th of May.
In a statement issued by the club, they say: “Will is proud to serve as the Phantoms captain for the 2021-22 season. Whilst he has been a Phantom he has only had two previous captains. With this in mind it is only fitting that these two players will captain the respective testimonial teams.”
Skating as captain for Team White is the Phantom’s all time appearance holder James Ferrara.
Making 674 appearances for the club and scoring 181 times making him third in all time goal scorers.
He sent the best part of 10 seasons skating with the Phantoms, seven as the club captain.
He retired in the 2019-2020 season with the club doing the same to his number 17 jersey.
Team Blue’s captain will be the man who captained Weldon in his first season at the club.
Jeff Glowa joined the Phantoms in the 2010-2011 season and iced 162 times for the club.
He scored 79 times in this period and captained the side from the 2011-2012 season until his retirement in the 2012-2013 season.
One Legend to Another
Weldon has iced 440 times for the Phantoms, starting from his debut season in 2011-2012.
This makes him their third all time appearance maker, only 11 behind Robert Ferrara on 451.
He’s become a mainstay in the Peterborough squad and at just 28-years-old could find himself up there with appearances.
Weldon has expressed his excitement at the announcement of the two captains on the club’s website, saying: “Where to start with these 2 gentlemen…I was so very fortunate to get to play under these guys’ leadership and I hope to have picked up traits from them both to allow me to successfully captain the Phantoms. I am really pleased that both guys are available to play and I can’t wait to see them both lace up the skates on 28th May.”
The club are offering an opportunity to own and loan Ferrara and Glowa’s testimonial jerseys on their website.
