GB men’s coach Pete Russell will swap Freiburg for DEL2 rivals Ravensburg Towerstars next season.
The 46-year-old will make the move at the conclusion of this season, where he is enjoying another successful campaign with his current club.
And Ravensburg chairman Frank Kottman was keen for Russell to come on board as part of a change in management structure at the club.
“In personal conversations with him, it quickly became clear that there is a basis for a shared vision,” he told the club’s website.
“I am very happy that we were able to inspire our dream coach, Peter Russell, for Ravensburg. He has proved not only in Freiburg in the DEL2, but also with the British national team that he is a coach who can develop players.
“We want to work with him and the new managing directors work together on a new sporting philosophy for the Towerstars.
“I am convinced that Peter will fit perfectly into our new structure and that he will form a successful team of trainers together with Marc Vorderbrüggen as an assistant coach.”
As well as being GB’s most successful coach in modern times, his club career has flourished in recent years, beginning at Milton Keynes Lightning, starting the old English Premier League where he won the EPL Cup and play-offs.
He joined Glasgow Clan in 2018 and led them to a top four finish and the Challenge Cup semi finals before Freiburg came calling, taking them to third place last season in the regular season and winning Coach of the Year for DEL2.
He currently has the ‘Wolves’, as they are known, in the top three again, but will make the relatively short move to Ravensburg, where he’ll replace former Nottingham Panthers coach Rich Chernomaz.
