Manchester Storm legend Mike Morin has returned to the club to assist Omar Pacha.

The former left winger, who played for six seasons in the Super League era, will take up a bench coach role.

Morin, 45, said: “It’s been a long time since I have been around an ice hockey rink and it feels good.

“Storm were a big brand back in the day and to hear the name again in the press and social media, it is an exciting time.

“I didn’t think this would happen again, I thought I was retired but I am absolutely delighted to be back.

“I’m here to get to know the guys and the characters. I have been watching the team over the last couple of months and I am here to help on the ice.”

Morin was one of the figureheads of Manchester Storm in the 90s.

He played for the club from 1995 to 2002, making 380 appearances and scoring nearly 150 points – before he moved to Hull and Sheffield.

He then returned to the North West with Manchester Phoenix in 2003/04 before hanging up his skates and becoming a landscape gardener.

Pacha took to Twitter to say: “Great to have @Moforless join the coaching staff! A very knowledgeable hockey man with great experience. A true leader!! #StormLegend.”

The rejuvenation of the Storm is one of this season’s truly positive hockey stories. After a tumultuous start which gave the club only a few weeks to gather a roster – following Hull Stingray’s demise – led by Pacha and GM Neil Russell they have become competitive and have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup.

A large social media campaign has also ensured crowds are on the increase at their Altrincham Ice Dome.
