Another week passes us by and once more, in taking in what’s been another terrific couple of days of action, we’re feeling a little more educated again.
Allow us to share the five things that have ensured we get a little more sleep at night.
1. Fife find their way to goal
We’ve highlighted it on this piece about the poor start to the season Fife have made, so it’s only right we acknowledge the cracking result they got to snap that miserable losing run.
After a 5-0 shellacking on Saturday at Manchester Storm and eight winless games so far this season, it was hard to see where that win was coming from.
Turns out all they had to do was lure Ryan Finnerty’s side to Kirkcaldy and unleash their inner beasts where they smashed Storm for eight.
Considering they hadn’t score more than two in a game so far this season, picking up that amount in one go seemed to get everyone’s attention, including Dave Simms, who reckoned Fife’s Twitter had been hacked (Dave was kidding by the way).
2. Scott Conway and Brodie Reid are a bit good
We’re always interested to see how new players into the Elite League and for some, the transition can be quicker than others.
But when you take in the contributions of Scott Conway at Belfast Giants and Cardiff Devils’ Brodie Reid, it’s been breathtaking.
Conway has 13 points from eight games in both competitions so far including that excellent hat-trick on Sunday at Coventry Blaze.
Reid has an eye-watering eight goals in 10 domestically, scoring in each of Cardiff’s four league games. These guys could really hit some ridiculous figures at this rate.

3. Oh yeah, the Clan have still to play
Great news for Glasgow Clan this weekend when they announced head coach Malcolm Cameron had arrived in Scotland and ready to go.
We almost forgot the team from the West of Scotland were still to appear, but it won’t be long now until the Purple Army are loud and proud again.
It’s been quite the delay for them and we know they’re champing at the bit to come back, but Malcolm has learned anything from his brief impression of Scotland, wearing shorts in October is quite the statement.
We’re fans of the work of the excellent ‘BadlyDrawnEIHL’ on Twitter and there’s been regular jokey exchanges between him and Belfast coach Adam Keefe since ‘BadlyDrawn’ done his portrait.
In fact, he even bought a ‘face in the crowd’ of the Giants boss in the Elite Series, which he’s been looking to get signed by the man himself.
Despite threatening an uppercut in one tweet (not seriously we assume), Keefe was only too happy to sign his picture and even got his photo taken with it.
He may be a no-nonsense character when it comes to playing and coaching, but he’s shown here he’s always good for a laugh.
An outbreak of profanity in Cardiff this week may prompt the management at Ice Arena Wales to fix one of their screens.
We can report it wasn’t Todd Kelman dropping the sort of industrial language those of us with sensitive ears couldn’t possible repeat.
While we apologise for anyone who may be offended, we certainly saw the funny side when the word ‘pucks’ was distorted by the screen issue into, well, you get the idea.
We think Todd may be on the phone this morning to get it fixed.
