The Colorado Avalanche took home ice hockey’s most coveted trophy in style, seeing off back-to-back champions Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 to claim their first Stanley Cup in 20 years and third overall. The win saw the Avs maintain their 100% win record in the finals, making them the only one of 12 NHL teams with at least three championships.
The chase for another Stanley Cup is up and running. Sitting pretty comfortably at the NHL odds ranking for the Stanley Cup is a Colorado Avalanche team that still looks like the team to beat.

Notable Stanley Cup Favorites
Colorado are +500 favorites to be the champions again. The Avs were the dominant team last season, posting an outstanding 16-4-0 record. They also outscored their opponents 85-55.
Colorado currently boasts reigning Norris Trophy winner Cale Makar, and their offense looks lethal yet again, with Nathan MacKinnon leading the charge in front.
Carolina Hurricanes
The acquisition of Max Pacioretty and Brent Burns during the offseason gives a Hurricanes side – that finished atop the Metropolitan Division – another boost. Carolina will be hoping to make it past the second round after failing to do so since the 2018-2019 playoffs.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs are still searching for their first playoff series win since 2004. However, we can almost count on this team to break the streak. They boast Austin Matthews, the reigning Hart Trophy winner who finished last season with 60 goals. And let’s not forget; Toronto took back-to-back champs, Tampa Bay, to seven games in Round 1 of the 2022 NHL playoffs.
Florida Panthers
The best regular season team of the 2021-22 season is yet again a top contender for the Stanley Cup, and it’s no surprise. Last season, the Panthers produced one of the best offensive displays in recent memory.
Florida replicated its regular season form in Round 1 of the 2022 NHL playoffs, clinching its first playoff victory since 1996. But their season was cut short after being swept by the Lightning in Round 2.
Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning saw their 11-series playoff winning streak come to an end at the Stanley Cup finals last year. However, Tampa Bay has one of the best goalkeepers in the NHL (Andrei Vasilevskiy) and will look to reclaim their spot as Stanley Cup champions this year.
