Manchester Storm general manager Ryan Finnerty has released an update heading into the Christmas period on their search for a new head coach.

The Storm have been without a permanent head coach since Mike Flanagan’s dismissal on December 3, with interim boss Mike Morin taking charge over the last two weeks.

In that time, the Storm have played four times, winning two and losing two, with one of the losses coming in overtime against Nottingham Panthers.

Finnerty “optimistic” about future

Despite Manchester Storm currently residing in eighth-place, the GM is confident that his side can consolidate the play-off position and even move up the league as we approach the new year.

He said: “We are roughly one-third the way through now and whilst our league position isn’t where we expected it to be, we are optimistic with the progress we’ve seen over the last few weeks.

“We have a lot of work ahead but we are fortunate enough to have the personnel to deliver during this transaction period.

“I have always said that this business is not fluid, you are met with daily decisions you could never forecast and we’ve had a tough run with sickness bugs or injuries that have hampered our line-up.

“We are committed to getting this right and trust we have the group to continue pushing up the standings.”

GM enjoys working with Morin

Despite Manchester Storm not finding the right man to take the permanent role as head coach, Finnerty is in no rush to make a rash choice.

Morin has been involved in the club in various capacities since joining as a player during the 1996/97 season, and Finnerty admits he likes having him around.

He went on to say: “For me personally, it’s been a lot of fun working with Mike again. I think we’ve made great strides with this group and I look forward to seeing where we can take this team.

“Thank you all for your endless support. You guys continue to stand by us and your patience is remarkable. Please trust, we are all working to get this back on track and to keep moving forward.

“It means the world to see the stands full and hear the noise during games.”
