Glasgow Clan have confirmed that the issue which forced the abandonment of last weekend’s Elite League fixture against Guildford Flames has been resolved.

Due to a failure with the temporary ice plant, the club say they “encountered serious issues” with the playing surface, leading to the fixture being called off.

The scores were tied at 1-1 after the first period when their outing against Guildford was brought to a halt.

It has since been confirmed that the game will be replayed in full at a later date, and, luckily, no other upcoming fixtures at the Braehead Arena will fall foul of ice conditions.

In a Clan statement, they confirmed that the safety and welfare of players, staff and supporters would’ve been compromised, had last week’s game been allowed to continue.

The statement continued: “Our dedicated team has worked quickly to resolve the situation, and we are pleased to confirm that the issue is now resolved.

“We are also happy to announce that Saturday’s EIHL Christmas Cracker game against the Dundee Stars will proceed as scheduled.”

Glasgow have also confirmed that steps are being taken to improve the quality of ice at the Braehead Arena in early 2025.

Unforeseen delays concerning the instalment of a new ice plant have meant that a temporary version is currently being used.

“We want to assure everyone that significant steps are being taken to prevent such disruptions in the future,” the Clan statement added.

“Ownership continues the investment, work and transition to a new, state-of-the-art ice plant, which is set to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.

“Unfortunately, the new plant installation to this point has experienced delays out of our control and in the meantime, the arena is maintaining the ice using a temporary ice plant at significant but necessary costs.

“We thank our fans for their patience, understanding and continued support, in what was a very disappointing and frustrating situation.”
