Manchester Storm head coach Ryan Finnerty says Matt Bissonnette will be one of the club’s key players next term after the Canadian forward agreed a new deal.

Bissonnette played a leading role as Storm reached the play-offs for the first time in the Elite League, weighing in with 15 goals and 35 assists in 52 games in all competitions last season.

The 25-year-old has now agreed to a second season in Altrincham and Finnerty admits Bissonnette was a player he admired when he was in charge at Braehead Clan last season.

“I really liked Matt’s game when he played against the Clan last year – he’s a smart hockey player, very creative and is strong on the special teams too,” said Finnerty.

“I’ll be leaning on him this season for point production, a responsibility Matt will no doubt thrive on and all the reports I have received on him have been very positive.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him next season and the pieces to the jigsaw are falling into place nicely right now.”
