The Stena Line Belfast Giants fell 4-2 at home against the Edinburgh Capitals on Saturday. The Giants equalised twice through Sylvestre and Johner though a final period double gave the away side the points.
The Capitals were backstopped to the away win by an impressive Tyler Bestorowany in the Edinburgh net who turned away 36 shots from the Giants.
The first placed Cardiff Devils also lost on Saturday however the Manchester Storm’s 4-1 win vs MK sees them overtake the Giants into second place.
Powerplay Goals In Even First Period
Two powerplay goals split the Giants and Capitals in the first period. First up, Igor Valeyev fired the visitors in front after 5:15 with a nice powerplay strike, assisted by Tyler Beskorowany.
Sebastien Sylvestre hit back with a special teams goal of his own with a cool low finish past Capitals netminder Tyler Beskorowany after stick handling past two Edinburgh skaters.
Johner Hits Back After Valeyev Scores Brace
Valeyev doubled his and his team’s tally at 29:33 when he skated down the wing and fired high past Truehl, assisted by Ainars Podzins and Denis Trakhanov.
Dustin Johner struck with the Giants second powerplay goal of the game at 35:28 with a top shelf finish after a nice pass from Jonathan Ferland.
Capitals Double Downs Giants
Ainars Podzins grabbed another Capitals go-ahead goal at 43:31, assisted by Michael DOrazio and Mike Cazzola, to edge the away side into a 3-2 lead.
Dillon Lawrence rounded off the away win with an empty net finish at 59:53 to give the Capitals the 4-2 victory.
