Glasgow’s Braehead Clan Hockey & Operations Director Gareth Chalmers has today paid tribute to former captain Matt Keith.
The Canadian is back in Glasgow for Saturday’s home game against the Dundee Stars, where his banner will be inducted onto the club’s Wall of Fame at Braehead Arena.
Keith who joined the Clan from Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg back in the summer 2014, is this weekend being recognised for his three years playing in front of the Purple Army.
“The summer Matt signed with us, we’d be looking for a player that was going to be our leader on and off the ice, that go-to-guy, a game changer for the organisation” said Chalmers.
“I recall the day Ryan [Finnerty] called me about Matt and said he was interested in coming to Glasgow. We spoke to a lot of people we knew and he ticked every single box.
“Matt came to this organisation and was certainly that ‘game changer’. He brought a new level of professionalism, leadership and integrity to the Clan from the moment he arrived.
“In his first season we finished second in the league, losing out on the EIHL title by one point and qualifying for our first ever Champions Hockey League campaign – he helped the step up another level.
“He is someone I have total respect for and he is certainly someone we will be keeping in touch with heading into the future.
“Matt, Chelsea and Lola will always be part of the Clan family and will always be welcome here. We’re all looking forward to Saturday’s big game and thanking Matt for his three season’s here at Braehead.”
