Edinburgh Capitals have appointed Martin Cingel as Head Coach of their Scottish National League (SNL) team.
Cingel, who spent 11 years as a player with the Capitals’ Elite League team, spent last season in NIHL North as Player/Assistant Coach with Solway Sharks.
In addition to his new role, Cingel will train with the Capitals’ EIHL squad and provide injury cover as the 15th import.
Capitals’ owner Scott Neil said, “Martin Cingel has been a magnificent servant to this club over the years. He’s been part of the fabric of the club, participating in over 500 games and was club captain for most of that time.
“Martin is a great Capital, and I’m pleased to hand to him the responsibility of running the SNL team to develop more great Capitals. He has made Edinburgh his home, and we are pleased to welcome him back to the club.
“I’m committed to developing homegrown talent. I’m on record as saying that the Elite League doesn’t have enough British players and I want to do more to develop British talent.
“Similarly, I want to grow and develop our coaching staff and create a better pathway and structure from bottom to top and Martin will be a great addition to our coaching team.”
Cingel added: “Everyone knows the special relationship I have with this club and it has always felt like home to me. It’s an exciting challenge and hopefully I can add a lot of value both on and off the ice.
“As far as coaching experience goes I was involved with the coaching for both Solway and Dundee Stars and I’m really looking forward to coaching the SNL Capitals on a day-to-day basis.”
“It’ll be a learning curve for me, but I’m excited for this next chapter of my career.”
