Braehead Clan defenceman Cameron Burt has been named the Elite League Player of the Week for period ending Saturday 11th February 2018.
The 31-year-old played at key role in Braehead’s two big wins against Dundee Stars at the weekend to cement their place in the top eight.
And Burt reckons his team are starting to click at the right time as he reflected on the double successes over Omar Pacha’s side.
“It’s more for a team award for us after a big weekend and I was just happy to play and do my part to help us get the wins,” he said.
“The victory on Saturday was awesome and there was a lot building up to it. On Sunday, both teams battled to the end so it was good to get the four points.
“There would have been a lot of pressure going into the weekend, but it was important to take it game by game and not let it build too much.
“As a team, we’re definitely clicking and you can see more confidence from the guys, with some playing with a bit more swagger so it’s coming at a good time for us.”
Burt signed for the club last summer from German DEL2 outfit Starbulls Rosenheim and has been an ever-present for the Clan this season.
He picked up two assists in the two victories at the weekend as Braehead moved five points ahead of the Stars in the race for the play-offs.
His coach, John Tripp spoke of seeing his player receive this week’s award and praised his contribution to the weekend.
He said: “I’m delighted for Cameron as he’s been a big part of our team in recent weeks as we’ve picked up some big wins along the way.
“His skating, defensive work and overall play were huge for us in the two games against Dundee Stars and he brings a calmness to the team in the defensive lines.
“I was pleased to see us get all four points from the two games and with a tough weekend to come, it stands us in good stead.”
