An impressive performance on Saturday Night saw the Devils win 6-3 over the visiting Milton Keynes Lightning.
Devils opened the scoring when Sean Bentivoglio outmuscled a Lightning defender and found Matthew Myers out front of the net who fired the puck past Miika Wiikman at 11:50. That was the only goal of the first period, despite an impressive opening 20 minutes from the Devils.
The middle period saw 6 goals scored between the two teams with the Devils opening up a big lead before the Lightning battled back. First Justin Faryna tapped in a nice passing play from Gleason Fournier and Matthew Myers to put the Devils up 2-0 at 27:49. Then Fournier set up Bentivoglio to give the Devils a 3-0 lead at 31:06.
The Devils went up 4-0 when Layne Ulmer scored with Fournier and Joey Martin getting the assists on the powerplay goal at 34:15. The game looked like it was getting out of reach with the Devils on another powerplay but an unlucky bounce saw former Devil Denny Kearney get a breakaway and he went backhand shelf over Ben Bowns to give the Lightning some life, making it 4-1 at 35:15. Then another former Devil, Guillaume Doucet scored at 36:49 to make it 4-2. Andrew Hotham restored the 3 goal lead for the Devils at 37:43 to put the Devils up 5-2 after 40 minutes of play.
The Devils added to their lead on the powerplay in the third period with another goal from Hotham at 55:12 to make it 6-2, but the Lightning scored just over a minute later to round out the scoring when Tommy Mele tapped in a Doucet pass at 56:22.
The Devils were 2 for 8 on the powerplay and perfect on the penalty kill keeping the Lightning at bay on all 4 opportunities with the man advantage.
