Cardiff Devils have confirmed they will play two games against Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) team Medvescak Zagreb during August.
Medvescak will hold a week long training camp in Cardiff prior to the games on Saturday 13th August and Sunday 14th August.
This will be the first time a KHL team has played in Britain and the Devils’ Managing Director Todd Kelman is excited to host the Croatian outfit.
“Next to the NHL, the KHL is the best league in the world,” said Kelman.
“They are constantly looking to grow their global reach and we are very pleased to be able to host Zagreb in August.
“I think it is a great opportunity to see how a team from one of the best levels of pro hockey train and I think we will learn a great deal seeing how they operate on and off the ice.
“Our fans will be in for a real treat – the KHL is such a skilled league. It will be a different style of hockey than fans in the UK are used to and I know it will be a great experience for all of us.
“Our former netminder Stevie Lyle was instrumental in putting this event together with Aaron Fox from Zagreb and he will be part of the event management team for these games.
“They started talking about this when Team GB were away at the World Championships in Croatia this past April.”
Fox, Sports Director for Medvescak Zagreb, added: “We are looking forward to seeing the new arena in Cardiff and getting some quality pre-season games in with the Devils.
“I’m sure their fanbase will enjoy these games and we are excited about playing in front of UK fans for the first time.”
