On the night of the annual ‘Air the Bear’, the Devils looked to score early when a loose puck was jammed into the net inside 4 minutes. As the bears rained down, the referee actually disallowed the goal so despite the bears hitting the ice, the score remained 0-0. The Devils did eventually open the scoring at 9:58 of the first period when Layne Ulmer was sent in alone on Travis Fullerton in net for Dundee with Mark Richardson and Sean Bentivoglio getting the assists on the play.
Andrew Hotham doubled the lead at 14:52 after Paul Crowder found him alone high in the slot area and he fired it low past Fullerton to make it 2-0. With 1:28 left in the period and the Stars on the powerplay, Brian Hart deflected a pass from Gabriel Levesque off his skate to make it 2-1. The Devils protested that the puck was kicked in, but the goal stood and the teams headed into the intermission with the homeside leading by a goal.
The second period got a little feisty when Bryce Reddick and Cameron McGiffin dropped the gloves 3 minutes into the middle period, and both sat for 5 minutes with fighting majors. In his first game back at Ice Arena Wales in over a month, Joey Haddad scored at 13:18 with Andrew Lord and Paul Crowder getting the assists to give the Devils a 3-1 lead. The second period closed out with the teams trading powerplay chances, with the Stars carrying over the man-advantage into the third period.
The Devils held their two-goal lead into the final 5 minutes of the game, but with the Stars on the powerplay Joey de Concilys hammered a pass from Marc-Olivier Mimar through Ben Bowns to pull the Stars within a goal, making it 3-2 at 56:32. Despite the Stars pulling their netminder in the final minute, the Devils held on for the win.
