Blaz Emersic will be a member of the MK Lightning roster for a sixth consecutive season.
The Slovenian forward was appointed as one of the Lightning’s assistant coaches last season – a role which will continue in 2016/17.
Head Coach Pete Russell said: “I’m delighted that Blaz has committed to the Lightning for another season. Last year he was an unsung hero – he does all the dirty work and takes pride in it.
“It was the easiest signing to make – I knew from day one I wanted him back and Blaz only wanted to be in one place.
“We go back a long way. He’s vital to any team on and off he ice. He has strong qualities, is a great person and a real professional. For me he is a important part and it’s fantastic for us to spend another season together.
“Blaz is in great shape, has great hockey sense and makes other players better around him – he lets them play and protects them.
“He also chips in with 20-25 goals as well – normally in big games. He puts the team first and battles every night.
“The extra depth we have this year will only help Blaz have an even stronger season – I asked too much of him at times last year.
With Blaz added to the roster that’s us complete. We now have a strong team who will have one goal – to compete for championships on all fronts.
“That’s where this club and facility has to be aiming in this league. It’s a great honour to coach this club and we want to give the best supporters in the league something they truly deserve.”
Emersic added: “I’m delighted to be back for another season. Coming back to MK was the only option in my mind.
“There is one thing that motivates me when playing and that is winning. Pete has a winning mentality himself and that is one of the reasons I enjoy playing for him.
“He’s put together a great team and I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.
“MK fans have been great to me and my family over the years. It would be very fitting if we could celebrate a trophy with them at the end of the season.”
