MK Lightning are five points behind EPL leaders Telford Tigers with a game in hand after recording two victories over the weekend.
Lightning triumphed 5-2 on home ice against Guildford Flames and followed up with a win by the same scoreline at Bracknell Bees.
Milan Kolena (3) led the way for the Tigers in their 8-2 success at home to Sheffield Steeldogs.
The Shropshire outfit also secured a 7-2 success on home ice in the second leg of their cup semi-final against Peterborough Phantoms.
Despite that result giving them a 9-6 aggregate over the two fixtures, a new ruling introduced this season gave the winner of each tie two points meaning the game went to overtime.
Neither side could find a goal during the extra session, so the tie was decided by a penalty shoot-out where Wehebe Darge bagged the decider for the Phantoms.
Vanya Antanov (2) topped the scoring for fourth-placed Basingstoke Bison in their 5-0 home win against Bracknell.
Hull Pirates had a miserable weekend, losing 13-1 at Peterborough and 4-1 at Sheffield.
Swindon Wildcats won 5-0 at home to Manchester Phoenix, but they were out of luck at Guildford the following day as the Flames secured a 3-1 success.
