Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, are delighted to confirm the return of Canadian forward Chase Schaber for the 2017/18 Elite Ice Hockey League season.
The 26 year old Canadian from Red Deer, Alberta, returns to Kirkcaldy following an impressive EIHL debut season that saw him ice in 55 games on the way to scoring 25 goals and 17 assists.
Schaber spent 5 seasons playing his junior hockey in the Western Hockey League, splitting his time between the Calgary Hitmen and Kamloop Blazers. During his time in the WHL, Schaber iced in 277 regular season games, scoring 68 goals and 102 assists, plus 273 penalty minutes.
The 5’11, 194lbs left winger has also iced with AHL side Oklahoma City Barons, whilst on loan from ECHL side Bakersfield Condors.
As well as playing in Bakersfield in the ECHL, Schaber has had spells with Idaho Steelheads and Norfolk Admirals.
During his time in the ECHL, Chase has totalled 161 games, scoring 41 goals and 58 assists.
Speaking about his return to Kirkcaldy, Schaber had the following to say.
“I am excited to return to Fife to play for the Flyers again. I have nothing but good things to say about the passionate, proud, and loud fans we have.
“My goal for our team, and I think everyone in the room including staff can agree, is that we are going to do everything we can to bring back some silverware to Fife.
“Not making the finals in Nottingham was disappointing last year and I definitely want to be there this year. We as a team will come to work every day and night and wear the logo with pride!
“Personally I am going to do everything in my power to have a complete season this year.
“I know I had a slow start last year coming off a brutal injury. But that being said, I don’t quit and I don’t get outworked. I finished strong last year and now it’s time to give all you fans, my teammates, and coaches my very best every night.
“The team is lucky to have Kirkcaldy and all of Fife behind us. Let’s have a year! See you all soon. Cheers Aye! COYF”
Flyers Head Coach Todd Dutiaume had the following to say about the return of Schaber “After a long drawn out summer I’m happy to say that we’ve reached an agreement with one of our most popular players from last season.
“I must admit at times I had resigned myself to the fact that this was not going to happen but chase has the potential to have a major impact not only within our squad but around the league.
“We will rely heavily on Schabs this season and I look forward to finding out what he is capable of helping our team achieve this year.”
