Fife Flyers, sponsored by Arnold Clark Mercedes-Benz, are delighted to confirm the signing of US born defenceman Jim Jorgensen for the 2017/18 Elite Ice Hockey League season.
Jorgensen joins the Flyers with a wealth of experience having spent 4 seasons in North America and 5 seasons in the EIHL, having iced with Sheffield Steelers, Braehead Clan and Coventry Blaze where he was part of the 2014/15 playoff winning side under Chuck Weber.
Jorgensen, who comes from Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan spent four years at Ferris State University and was part of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs side which won the CHL play-offs in 2010/11.
In his debut EIHL season Jorgensen iced with the Braehead Clan and was named in the Elite League All-Star Second Team after registering 52 points (16 goals and 36 assists) in 60 regular-season and play-off matches.
Jorgensen has gone on to ice in a total of 246 games, scoring 38 goal and 105 assists in the EIHL.
Assistant Coach Jeff Hutchins said “I have played & coached against Jim and we will be a better team all round with him in our line-up.
“We have been looking for a steady all round d-man that will be good on the ice and in the locker room. We have a young tight knit group this year and adding a player and person like him will only strengthen the group.
“He will be one of the older guys and we expect him to provide a solid veteran presence day in day out. We are happy that we could get a deal done with him.
“Todd and I have to thank the ownership for acting quickly in order to get him here in time for the weekend.”
Jim added “I’m extremely happy to be coming back to the league I’ve called home for 5 seasons, especially to Fife which I’ve heard a lot of good things about from former players.
“It looks like the club has a great chance of winning the conference and challenging for some hardware this season and winning is something we all love to do.
“I can’t wait to get going!”
Jim is expected to arrive in Fife later this week and should be in the line-up this weekend against Braehead Clan on Saturday and make his home debut against the Guildford Flames on Sunday.
