Great Britain Women U18 are eagerly anticipating this week’s four-team international tournament in Hungary.

GB face the hosts, Poland and Spain from Tuesday 4th to Thursday 6th October 2016 in Budapest as a warm-up for next January’s World Championship tournament.

It is the second year of the tournament after Spain won the inaugural event at iceSheffield last season.

GB begin the tournament with a game against Hungary on Tuesday, followed by Poland on Wednesday and Spain on the final day.

Head Coach Cheryl Smith said: “Everyone is looking forward to the trip and the players will take a lot from it.

“We are taking a young squad but that just underlines how much talent we have in the programme at the moment.

“It will be good to see how these players react in game situations. It will be a tough tournament but one which will help us no end.”

Bracknell Queen Bees’ forward Louise Beresford will captain the team, with the alternate captains named as Jemma Wallis (Nottingham) and Sophie Sinclair-Reeks (Widnes Wild).

“I’m very happy with the leadership team we have chosen for this tournament,” added Smith.

“It will be massive week for these three and I want them to show they can lead this squad well.

“Playing for your country is a massive honour and all three were thrilled to have the added leadership responsibility.

“We have a young team over here this week and it is important they have good role models.”
