Glasgow’s Braehead Clan rounded off 2017 in style as Tyler Scofield’s hat-trick helped them to a 6-0 Hogmanay win over Dundee Stars.

A frenetic start saw Dundee test Clan goalie Ryan Nie tested in the opening couple of minutes with early chances, but the home side soon found their rhythm.

John Tripp’s men went close as Brendan Brooks and Michal Gutwald had good opportunities, with the former even hitting the post.

But eventually the deadlock was broken as Cameron Burt delivered in from the left, with Gutwald getting the final touch to put it beyond Stars goalie Travis Fullerton.

Braehead were soon two up when Craig Cescon found Tyler Scofield on the inside right and in space to send a one-timer high into the net to double the lead.

Clan’s Jacob Doty and Emerson Hrynyk of Dundee dropped the gloves as tempers frayed in the opening period, but the men in purple were comfortably two up.

It only took a minute of the second period for Braehead to increase their lead as Brendan Brooks dropped for Scofield, who smashed another powerful shot into the net.

Then Brooks scored arguably the goal of the night as he flicked the puck over the head of Anthony Mastrodicasa, chased and coolly finished past Fullerton.

Mike Embach tapped in a fifth for Braehead as they effectively clinched the points during the third period.

Then another Scofield piledriver sealed a great win for the Clan as he completed his treble to send Braehead into the top eight in the Elite League standings.
