A hat-trick from Brendan Brooks made it a comfortable night for Glasgow’s Braehead Clan, who defeated Edinburgh Capitals 8-2 at Braehead Arena.
The result makes it four wins on the trot for the Clan as they continue to battle their way into the top eight.
As for the Caps looked to increase a winning run to two and thought they were making strides in getting it when they opened the scoring after 13 minutes.
Pavel Vorobyev set up Sergei Banashkov, who swept a low shot past Ryan Nie in Clan’s goal to give Edinburgh the lead.
But Clan were back on level terms when Brendan Brooks effort hit the post and dropped behind Caps netminder Pavel Shegalo, which was confirmed after goal line technology was used.
The home side went ahead as Ville Hämäläinen teed up Tyler Shattock on his right and the forward sent his effort into the net.
Brooks scored his second and Clan’s third right before the first break when he got the touch on a Zach Sullivan blue line shot to divert it past Shegalo.
Clan increased the lead further in the second period as Brooks turned provider to set up Tyler Scofield on the breakaway and he made it 4-1.
Caps pulled one back through Pavel Vorobyev, as his low effort got the better of Nie, but it wasn’t long before the three-goal lead was re-established.
Brooks was the man to get it as he completed his hat-trick with a powerful as the game started to look more comfortable for the Clan.
Craig Cescon added a sixth for good measure when he tapped in from close range to make the lead more comfortable.
John Tripp’s men rounded off the night with two more in the third as Jacob Doty and Mike Embach made it 8-2 and the job was complete.
