Braehead Clan’s newest signing Daniel Ahsberg has revealed Matt Keith sold him on a move to Glasgow – now the Swede wants to get his hands on silverware.
The duo were teammates at Swedish club Orebro and have remained friends since, with Keith eventually persuading Ahsberg to join him in Scotland.
He said: “I’m good friends with Matt and I’ve been talking to him over the last couple of years – he’s said nothing but good things about the team and the league.
“He said the league is getting better and better and that Glasgow is a beautiful city and that I would love it here.
“Plus he spoke very warmly about the fans and the organisation, so when my fiancee and I decided we weren’t going to stay in Norway Matt contacted me and it was a no-brainer.
“I love to explore new cities and cultures and as a soccer fan, I’ll be hoping to take in one or two games when I’m over.
“But I want to win championships and win the league. Braehead is one of the top teams and I want to help them achieve success this year.”
Ahsberg joins Braehead from Lillehammer in Norway and has spent his entire career in Europe, including a spell at Vaxjo Lakers, who were Clan’s opponents in the Champions Hockey League last year.
“I’m an offensive player and I’m more famous for that side of things, but I’ve been learning and developing the defensive side to my all-round game,” he added.
“I’m getting older now so I’m trying contribute to the game both going forward and at the back, and that’s what I’m working on every day.
“I only talked to the coach briefly before I signed, but he said we’ll talk more before I come over. We actually spoke a couple of times and he seems a really good guy.
“Everybody I’ve spoken to speaks highly of the fans, so that’s something else to look forward to when I arrive.”
