GB star Liam Kirk has been selected for the Arizona Coyotes training camp, which is already underway.
The 21-year-old has made an impression with the NHL side at their development camp, which took place over the weekend and his inclusion for the 49-man squad is a big step for the former Sheffield Steeler.
Kirk signed an entry level contract with the club in July after two seasons in the OHL with Peterborough Petes and a disrupted campaign last season because of Covid that saw him feature in the Elite Series with former club Steelers.
After a day of medical checks and media, Kirk will hit the ice with the rest of the party on Thursday for two weeks where they will play exhibition games as well as train as the Yotes prepare for the new season.
It’s a huge step for the forward, who will be sharing the ice with experienced NHL campaigners such as Phil Kessel, Shane Gotisbehere and Ryan Dzingel and also means he has a chance of being part of the team for their first pre-season against LA Kings on Monday.
