MK Lightning 0 Glasgow’s Braehead Clan 1

Clan, British Ice Hockey
A shutout performance from Gary Russell in goal ensured Braehead Clan got their third straight win and a shutout at Milton Keynes Lightning.
It’s the first time this season Clan have picked up maximum points three consecutive times as they edged closer to breaking into the top eight.
Clan were under the cosh in the opening minutes as Pete Russell’s side looked to make early chances, the best of which saw Russell equal to Tommy Mele’s effort.
A Kevin King slapshot also tested Clan’s goalie, in for the absent Ryan Nie, whose wife is due to give birth any day now, but again, Russell was in top form.
Clan made the breakthrough on 26 minutes when Tyler Scofield picked up the only goal of the game, after being set up by Jacob Doty in the build-up.
From there, it gave the visitors something to hold on to, but Braehead tried to add to it as they tested Miika Wiikman in the MK’s goal.
The home side couldn’t find a way through as Russell stayed stubborn and did well to prevent a chance from Paul Phillips get past him.
Clan fans held their breath in the final minutes as Doty had to sit for a delay of game penalty, giving Lightning a vital powerplay, but Braehead stood firm to take both points on the road.
The Edinburgh Capitals are visitors to Braehead Arena next Saturday (7:00pm face-off). Tickets are available now via braeheadclan.com, by calling 0844 499 1700 or direct at the Braehead Arena box office.
