Denny Kearney came up with the goods for Milton Keynes Lightning, beating league leaders Manchester Storm 3-2 in a closely fought game at Arena MK.

The home side bounced back well from their 5-1 loss at Dundee Stars last Sunday to take the points from the early pacesetters and came back from 2-0 to do so.

Both teams were deadlocked at 0-0 after the opening period, but it was Storm who edged themselves in front with two goals during the second.

Shane Bakker was first to the net to draw first blood as Ryan Finnerty’s men took the lead on the powerplay.

Then they added to it a few minutes later as Matt Beca picked up their second to put Manchester in a good position.

However MK pulled one back through Lewis Hook to close the gap, then Kevin King kept his good start to the season going with the equaliser.

The game remained close until the final minutes when Kearney made the difference with Lightning’s third to confirm the points for Pete Russell and his team.
