NIHL North round-up: Dima’s a Dog again

Sheffield Steeldogs have confirmed a strong netminding duo for the NIHL North Moralee D1 season 2017/18.

Player/Coach Ben Morgan has added the formidable pairing of Dmitri Zimozdra and Brandon Stones to his roster.

“Dima” was part of the Steeldogs’ organisation back in 2012 and got his chance when Ben Bowns moved on. He subsequently joined Sutton Sting and has established himself as one of the best goalies in NIHL North.

Stones is returning for his second season with the club after backing up James Hadfield last year. He previously iced for Sheffield Spartans in D1.

Morgan has also added defender Thomas Barry to his squad which is expected to be amongst the favourites for the title with Unibet next term.

Blackburn Hawks have signed for Manchester Phoenix and Great Britain defender Luke Boothroyd, while promising youngster Lewis Baldwin has joined the club after spells with Phoenix and the Steeldogs.

Jonathan Kirk has agreed a third season with Hull Pirates, while Deeside Dragons have added youngsters Louis Morgan and Jonah Armstrong to their roster.

In Laidler D2, Callum Bowley has been appointed as the new Player Coach at Telford Tigers 2, while defender Simon Offord has agreed another year with Widnes Wild.
