Peterborough Phantoms have added another promising youngster to their roster with the signing of Great Britain U20 forward Owen Griffiths.
The 19-year-old came through the Cardiff junior system before making his senior debut with the Devils’ NIHL team in 2012/13.
He moved to Wightlink Raiders in 2014 where he scored 16 goals with 29 assists in 42 games.
Last season Griffiths stepped up to the EPL with Swindon Wildcats, but he has now decided to join Phantoms’ growing band of young players.
Head Coach Slava Koulikov said: “Owen is young talented player who I got to know more at the GB U20 tournament last December.
“When I spoke with him after the season, he showed 100% commitment to hockey and ticked all the boxes for what I want to see in the role I had in mind for our team next season.
“He reads the game well for his age, plays well at both end of the ice and has a great attitude.
“Like the other guys we’ve signed this is going to be an important summer for Owen – if he pushes himself out of his comfort zone and comes in ultimate physical shape, he will be where he needs to be to push the team and compete to a high standard every game.”
Griffiths added: “I met Slava in France with GB, he really stood out to me as a coach. He noticed parts of the game that not a lot of people noticed, which really impressed me.
“Once I was given the opportunity to play under his coaching, I had to take the opportunity.
“I didn’t play a lot last season, but I hope with Slava’s help I’ll be in a position to chip in with scoring and push Peterborough to some silverware.”
