Clubs across the UK have paid tribute to former winger Rob Trumbley, who has died at the age of 50.

Trumbley featured for a number of clubs during his nine seasons in the UK, representing teams in Newcastle, Ayr, Manchester, Hull and Edinburgh between 1997-2005.

Before his time in the UK, Trumbley plied his trade in Canada and the United States, most recently representing AHL side Hamilton Bulldogs and Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL before making the move across the Atlantic.

‘A true warrior on the ice’

One of Trumbley’s former clubs, Edinburgh Capitals, described him as a “true warrior” and “great human being”.

He tallied 39 points in 32 appearances for the Capitals in the BNL between 2001-02.

In a tribute posted to social media, the club said: “It’s with great sadness we have heard of the passing of former Edinburgh Capital Rob Trumbley.

“Rob played a physical game, and although not the tallest, he was never afraid to drop the gloves with any enforcers he came up against.

“Our thoughts are with Rob’s family and friends at this time.”

Another of his former clubs, Manchester Storm, said: “We’re saddened to learn that Rob Trumbley has passed away.

“Rob’s nine seasons in UK hockey included 51 league and cup games for Storm in the 2000/01 season. We’re thinking of his family and friends tonight.”
