Solway Sharks suffered a miserable time on two fronts in NIHL North this weekend. The Moralee Conference leaders slipped to a 3-2 defeat at Sheffield Spartans in the league and followed up with a 6-3 reverse at Blackburn Hawks in the KD Flavell & Sons Northern Cup.
Sutton Sting extended their impressive recent run with a 7-2 win against Sheffield Spartans – Thomas Stuart-Dant (2) & Richie Oliver (2) led their scoring. Adam Brittle hit a hat-trick in Blackburn’s 8-4 victory at Manchester Minotaurs.
Solihull Barons extended their lead at the top of Laidler Conference with an 8-2 win at Sheffield Senators. Hull Jets came from behind to draw 5-5 with Coventry Blaze.
In the SE Trophy Gary Clarke scored twice in Chelmsford Chieftains’ 5-1 win at London Raiders, and bagged another couple in a 5-3 success in the reverse fixture.
EPL leaders Manchester Phoenix won 6-4 at home to Peterborough Phantoms. Guildford Flames won 4-3 at home to Bracknell Bees but lost 4-2 in the reverse fixture. Aaron Nell hit a hat-trick on his Swindon return as the Wildcats beat Basingstoke Bison 7-5, but they failed to follow up at Telford as the Tigers sealed a 7-6 success.
Basingstoke’s Joe Miller hit the shoot-out winner as Bison beat Sheffield 5-4, but the Steeldogs picked up a win by the same scoreline at MK Lightning. Janne Jokila (2) & Stanlislav Lascek (2) led the scoring as Lightning won 5-3 at Peterborough. The Phantoms didn’t end the week empty-handed as they sealed a 5-3 win at home to Telford.
Belfast Giants continued their winning ways in the Elite League with two victories against Braehead Clan. They ran out 4-1 winners on home ice and followed up with a 6-5 success in the return game. Sheffield Steelers collected four points from their double-header with Nottingham Lions, winning 2-0 at home and 3-2 after overtime on the road. Panthers bounced back to win 3-2 at Coventry Blaze.
Josh Batch hit a hat-trick as Cardiff Devils won 6-4 at Coventry, but Blaze gained their revenge with a 4-3 success in Wales. Dundee Stars won 4-1 at Fife Flyers and followed up with a 4-2 victory in the return on home ice. Edinburgh Capitals endured a miserable week losing 5-1 at Fife, 7-1 at Hull Stingrays and 7-3 at home to Braehead.
